It Is What It Is


If you find happiness elusive or scarcer than it seems for others, perhaps there’s a gem of wisdom in here for you.

Sometimes, even despite our thoughts to the contrary, a situation is just what it is. It’s not something else, it’s not what you think it should be, it’s not what you’d prefer it to be, it just is.

Acceptance is necessary for happiness. So is living in the moment. So if you are looking for a happiness hit, try acceptance. Let go of judgement, stop shoulding all over yourself, put your expectations away and just accept the situation for what it is, exactly how it is. Don’t try to change it. Don’t complain about it. Don’t ask why it isn’t different. Just make the best of it.

If you make the best of every situation and that leads to greater happiness each time. Guess what? That then adds up to a lifetime of happiness. (and a whole lot less frustration)

The secret to happiness is that it is what it is…and nothing more.
