28.03.2016 – Day 88
Are You Normal?
That Maya Angelou was an infinitely wise woman. This quote of hers speaks to a philosophy I’ve believed for most of my life.
I never quite understood most people’s desire to fit in. To be like the rest of the crowd. I got why people wanted to be liked and be popular, but I never knew why people were willing to do this at the expense of being themselves.
Maya’s quote reminds us that if we are willing to aspire to and then settle for being “normal”, those of us with the capacity to be more will sell ourselves short. Some of us were not designed to fit in. Some of us were never meant for normal, some of us are meant for far greater things, and if we make the mistake of stopping at normal, we’ll never know our potential, our capabilities or just how amazing and abnormal we can be.
Some of us were not designed to fit in. Some of us were never meant for normal, some of us are destined for far greater things. If we make the mistake of stopping at normal, we’ll never know our potential, our true capabilities or just how amazing and abnormal we can be.
So for those of us who are okay with being normal, that’s fine, if that’s what you want. You’re almost guaranteed to have lots of company there.
But, for those of us, who have an inkling that normal is not enough or just not for us, then we should just go for it. We should push as far past normal as we can and see if we can find our way to amazing instead. And, even if we have to stop at unique, we’re far closer to showing the world our true selves than if we never began the journey in the first place.
